EA announced today that a prequel to the critically acclaimed third-person horror/shooter Dead Space will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii. Following colonists of the doomed Aegis VII mining expedition, Dead Space Extraction focuses on a new heroine and will introduce new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and, in an intriguing twist for the Wii, cooperative multiplayer. Dead Space Extraction is slated for a fall 2009 release.

Vice President and General Manager of EA Redwood Shores Glen Schofield was quoted in EA's press release, stating, "As we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold.
